I actually use this type of communication during my day job, and I find it's quite effective with co-workers and underlings. To be honest, the majority of my co-workers are women, and if I didn't communicate empathetically I probably wouldn't be as good at what I do. Would be very effective in relationships I imagine...chicks would no longer be calling us men bad communicators. In the context of a pickup, it seems like this type of communication is most appropriate in a comfort stage, after all the plowing is done. 30+, gravy as usual.
