Great article. One point I would add is that according to psychologists, the subconscience effectively acts as a different person from your conscious/voice level. Therefore, although it may sound strange, addressing yourself in the second person is actually considered more effective. ie: you are confident, you can do this, etc. Of course it may different for everyone, but perhaps something to try...

This is very interesting: Yesterday I wrote up an "active voice" positive image projection involving meeting someone new and making a difference in their life. By lunch today I had met this younger guy who is just getting into pickup (I'm a few months along myself), and we had a great talk and there is an excellent chance I've met my first "wing". Pretty fuckin' cool.

I think that at least in my case, it made me cognizant of the positive things that I want to have in my life, and instead of new data just being dumped into the "daily file" of memories, certain key interactions or highlights now can stand out and demand a priority and attention. This can lead to a casacade of positive reactions and events, both internally and externally.

Thanks, 30+, you made a difference for me today with this post!

1. Do you need to keep up the practice? Yes.

2. For how long? As long as it takes for the message to become automatic, and something that occurs to you naturally, without effort.

3. I would recommend working with only 1-3 different pieces of self talk at a time. I currently have a bulletin board with different phrases on it. I pick one and work it into my mind for a period of 3 weeks to 2 months. Then I pick a different phrase.

4. What kind of personal experience do I have? Lots.

I've used reprogramming self talk in the contexts of health and fitness, seduction, sales (in several different positions), general confidence, and most recently in general social / relationship dynamics. It's an essential part of everyone's tool box, or should be. It's so powerful, I don't think I'll ever stop using it.

Good article. I've heard so much about positive self talk and just brushed it off as something I couldn't be bothered to do. After seeing you write about it here though, I think there are some things it can help me with.

Is this something you need to keep up? I have one phrase I've started saying to myself. How long until I can add more? Will there be a time that I can stop saying certain ones altogether, or will I always have to remind myself of them? What kind of personal experience do you have with self talk?

Thanks as always.

I am saving this one, printing it out and rereading it a couple of times a week. A lot of what you say is especially relevant to my life. This blog and the 30 sleeps blog give me a lot of inspiration. Keep up the good work.
